FAC
51 The Hacienda
These
unique photographs capture the energy of a legendary nightclub
at its peak; sweat, beats, hooded tops and arms waving in the
air. They also capture the beauty and colour of a much-copied
world-famous design; with the interior architect Ben Kelly,
Peter Saville fashioned an image, part Bauhaus, part Chicago
House, for this stripped-down, post-industrial space. As Kelly
himself has said - "Having got involved with Peter Saville
and having some understanding of Factory, I perhaps had the
arrogance to think I could interpret what Factory was about
from a two-dimensional point of view, the record sleeves, into
a three-dimensional environment."
Ian
Tilton photographed the interior and exterior of The Hacienda
to stunning effect. Also, in these images of outstretched arms
and smiling faces he captured a nightclub at its peak in an
era and a club that have achieved mythical status.
